The Hamamatsu tako or Japanese kites have been among the most extravagant in the world. These kites consist of a light bamboo or wooden frame, wrapped with rice paper and painted with different motifs, from legendary war heroes, to brilliant geometric patterns. These are being treasured as a work of art as it has been created in the hands of the skilled craftsman.
It takes hours to create one single kit, wherein each joint are tied together. Every surface are carefully painted as well. Goyo Kazuka, works with the International Association of Tako Age to teach the traditional method o f kite-making, and to bring Hamamatsu kites to the Berkeley Kite Festival for the new generation of kite-lovers.
