The Tenjin Matsuri is one of Japan's major festivals. It is held for two days in July at the shrine of Osaka Tenmangu in Osaka, Japan.
Literally translated to "The Festival of the Gods" Tenjin Matsuri is known for staging the world's greatest boat festival. It is said that the shrine's God travels around its territory to look over his parishioners and make sure they are living peacefully.
Tenjin Matsuri is dedicated to Sugawara-no-Michizane (845-903), known as the patron god of learning and art Tenman Tenjin.
