The Heian Period in Japan ran from 794 to 1185. During this time, the capital was Heian-kyo, which is now known as Kyoto.
In the Heian Period, Chinese influences such as Buddhism and Taoism were at their height. Despite this, the period is also known for being a golden age of Japanese culture such as literature and painting.
