Tenjin Festival ((天神祭) ) is a festival held in Osaka City. It is held in 24th and 25th of July in Osaka Tenmangu Shrine at the Osaka City centre. Tenjin Festival or festival of the Gods comprises of fireworks display, land and boat processions, boat bonfires at Osaka Okawa river. The festival is dedicated to the Japanese god of learning and scholarship - Sugawara Michizane and it's one of the famous summer festivals along with Gion Matsuri in Tokyo.
Events:
1st day: Prayers held at the shrine of Osaka Tenmangu at 7:45 morning. Public performances include drumming, land processionals and Danjiri dragon dancing.
2nd day: Pedestrians wear summer kimonos or yukata and wooden slippers or geta. Public performances include kagura music, bunraku theatre, boats, fireworks display and puppets.
