If kabuki is a theatre play composed only of males, with men also playing the female roles, then the women had their artistic revenge by 1913. During that year, the Takarazuka Revue has been established in Hyogo Prefecture in Japan, which is an all-female group. Unlike kabuki that is very unique to the Japanese, the Takarazuka Revue is actually of Western descent. But the theatre still proved their Eastern traits by incorporating very Japanese themes to their musical productions. The often adapt shoujo mangas and Japanese folklores in their peformances, giving them a touch of Broadway and Western style. The theatre troupe is actually owned by the Hankyu Railway company.
