Shokunin is the Japanese word for craftsman or craftswoman. They are the people who practices one of one of Japan’s traditional legacy of hand-crafting products such as swords, drums, fans, pottery, and even candies, and more. As centuries passed, hand-crafting is far left behind with the dwindling number of men and women who practices such art. That said, they are also the same people who takes care of the preservation of such tradition at present time.
In this video, watch as a shokunin demonstrates amezaiku, or the art of carving candies.
