Literally translating to "thousand shrine tags," the senjafuda are those pieces of paper that people stick onto the gates or interiors of a Buddhist shrine or temple in Japan. The papers actually have the names of the Buddhist followers printed on them. Most shrines already have papers printed with the most common names in Japan. Originally, these senjafuda are made of wood, carved to bear the names of the worshippers. But during the Edo period, the use of wood for senjafuda had been replaced by the use of paper.
