Sekihara Shiko continues her family's business in creating traditional Kyoto dolls by hand. Being exposed to the business since she was in primary school helped to hone her doll-making skills. She still uses Kyoto embroidery and hand painting to create the beautiful designs on each doll's costumes.

Shiko also tackled the history of her father-visioned Seikhara dolls, the Kyoto dolls and its general role as part of the Japanese tradition.
