"Sanja Matsuri" is a weekend-long religious shinto festival, taking place at Asakusa in May every year. Somewhere between 1.5 to 2 million locals and tourists joins to be a part of this exciting event, which is considered to be one of the largest and wildest matsuri festivals.
Among the things you can see (and hear!), is the "Mikoshi" parade of men and women, carrying miniature portable versions of their respective shrines (each weighing anything between 600 kilos to 1.2 ton!) Other events dotted around the festival are , bamboo flutes, "taiko" (traditional japanese drums) and "geisha" performances and traditional Japanese comedy theatre to mention a few - not forgetting all the food and drinks that is a must to keep your energy level up during the festival.
