Onbashira Festival is an instant attraction in Nagano. It is celebrated once in every six years and draws thousands of people who will be watching participants in moving 16 massive fir trees from the mountains to the shrines of Suwa. To reach them, the trunks are pulled with ropes and ridden down steep hills, through the river, and across the street.
Onbashira Festival is one of the oldest traditions in Japan, aging to approximately 1,200 years old.
