Summer in Japan surely means fireworks. And any part of Japan has its own contribution to the fireworks festivals during summer.
The city of Nagaoka in Niigata Prefecture boasts of one of the most spectacular fireworks display in summer. Happening for two evenings, the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival is not labeled as "massive" for no reason. The summer matsuri actually employs huge sanjakudama to launch the fireworks. These are the cannon-like structures used to release the beautiful lightworks in the sky. They are around 90 centimeters in diameter and simply look like those massive artillery in the battlefield.
