Shinto is the religion that is native to the Land of the Rising Sun. Therefore, its rituals can be said as something really endemic to Japan.

One of the interesting rituals of Shintoism is the misogi or the purification ritual. Most of the practitioners do this by plunging into a river or a nearby body of water. But before the actual misogi starts, practitioners need to do a set of preliminary purification first. This includes praying, fasting and a certain set of activity that involves the physical body.
