In Kyoto, a ritual that involves fire was taking place during the month of August. It all happens at the village called Hirogawara and this activity is called Matsu-age. which has been preserved by the village people for centuries as an act to commemorate local fire deity Atago Daimuojin and pray for good crops and the health of the villagers.
Hirogawa Matsuage is usually held at August 24 of the year wherein local men will be throwing their hurl flames up enough to lit the fire of a constructed tall pillar made of log called Japanese cedar before crashing it on the ground.
