E is the Japanes word for "picture" or "drawing." Usually this word is attached to the word explaining the art process.
The maki-e is a type of Japanese lacquerware art. The kitchenwares, whether wood or pottery, are painted with lacquer first, for that classy smooth and glossy finish. The smooth finishing of the said lacquerwares are then painted over with using powdered gold or powdered silver, or any kind of metal. Different kinds of brushes then gives the artists the different effects they need, which include strokes, heavyness and texture. The resulting pieces of art are truly elegantly done, making them a good way to decorate jewelry boxes and other gift boxes.
