Kyoto is not only famous for being the "old Japan," but also for being the home of the traditional Japanese dolls. Doll-making in the prefecture was started by various artisans since the time when Kyoto was still the capital of Japan. The place is proud of its one-centimeter dolls called the Kamo dolls. But when we say Japanese dolls, it got to be the Hina dolls. These are the dolls used during Hinamatsuri or Girls' Day, happening every March 3. They have even created different kinds of hina, depending on who will own these lovely and extravagant representations of the Imperial Family.
