Long-time ago, there was a story of the prettiest Japanese woman in town who has so many suitors. Among her suitors, she chooses the samurai who soon left her to go to war. Despite that, other suitors didn't give up. Years passed and her husband didn't come back and she entertained other suitors.
The day came when her husband samurai came back and celebrated his homecoming with his friends. He drank alcohol with his friends who told him about the pretty woman who was looking for the strongest suitor. He went to the house that his friend told about. Soon after, he arrived on the red door.
He realized that it was his house, he went inside only to found his pretty wife with other women. To punish her for infidelity, he sliced his wife's mouth corners with the samurai. After her death, she returned as an onryo or a vengeful spirit who would ask potential victims these questions:
1. Am I pretty?
2. If you answer yes, she will remove her mask and ask again,
3. How about now?
4. If you say yes, she will slit your mouth so that you appear like her.
On the other hand,
1. If you say No, she will kill you with scissors.
2. If you say No to her second qustion - "she will cut you in half."
To survive her questions, you have to say to her that you have no time. In some other versions of the legend, you have to say both yes to her questions.
