The creation of the kasuri fabric started its roots in the Ryukyu Kingdom, during the 12th and 13th centuries. The Ryukyu Kingdom was once situated in the modern-day Okinawa in Japan.
During its earlier phases, the kasuri fabric was usually dyed by hand. Later on, workers started using machines to do the job for them. The structure of Kurume-kasuri is simple: dark blue and white, with elaborate designs and curves. The fabric is woven to be flexible.
