The picture depicts the Jizo statues found in Kanmangafuchi abyss, located in the city of Nikko, in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.
These statues represent the Jizo of Buddhism. Known in sanskrit as Ksitigarbha and pinyin in Chinese, the jizo statues represent the Buddhist monks. The names, in all the languages can be translated as "Earth Treasury", "Earth Store", "Earth Matrix", or "Earth Womb." The jizo is said to be enunciated by Gautama Buddha to be responsible of all beings in the six worlds between the death of Buddha and the rise of Maitreya.
