A Japanese wedding is both traditional and western style. The traditional Japanese wedding (Shinto style) features a bride wearing a wedding kimono dress or "shiromuku". The groom wears the montsuki or black formal kimono and the hakama or kimono pant and the haori or kimono jackets. The traditional wedding follows a purification ritual and vows.

In recent years, more Japanese are following the western style wedding. The Japanese wedding can be Christian, Buddhist and Secular.
