The world always ends the year on a good note. There are various traditions around the world like medya noche, and new year's ball. But in Japan, though, the last day if the year (dated 31st of December) is known as omisoka. During this time, dishes such as sukiyaki and toshikoshi soba were prepared and eaten in celebration at the turn of the year.
Aside from preparing the dinner celebration, families usually watch Kohaku, an annual music show broadcasted during the New Year's Eve.
But that's not all. On the first morning of the year, family members gathered to eat oseschi ryouri, a sest of special dishes packed in a juubako box.
