Nowadays, tattoo is still one of the most taboo things in Japan, mainly because of its notorious association with yakuza, or the world-famous gangsters of Japan. Also in Japanese history, tattoos were once used as punishment for criminals, hence the bad impression on the skin tradition.
However, one artist has vowed to change the society's impression of this renowned skin art. Known by his artist name, Horikoi, he allows his clients to still be able to wear the horimono, or the full-body tattoo, without the public noticing it. He draws them in strategic places and designs over the human body for his clients to still enjoy the ancient art with being judged.
