Hakata Dontuaku Port Festival takes place during early May of the year at Fukuoka City, Japan, as part of the country’s “Golden Week.” It is dubbed as Japan’s largest citizen festival, with its number of spectator summing up to approximately two million per year.
It is previously named Hakata Donkatu Festival but has decided to change its name due to a number of events staging around Hakata Port, from parade of truck floats (hana jidosha) to groups of people – donned with their unique costumes – performing beats using shamoji spoons.
