Gunma Koinobori Village Festival is an event made in celebration of Japan’s “golden week.” It is usually held at their last day, May 5. It is also known as Koinobori Carp Streamer Village Festival, wherein the carp streamers (koinbori) are traditionally hung outside homes and schools, with each of them representing the members of the family; and the carp swimming up the waterfalls serving as a symbolic item of healthy growth.
During the festivity, there are around 5,000 koinori streamers hung across the rivers and parks of Tatebayashi City in Gunma.
