This could probably be one of the most recognizable paintings in the world that Japan has ever produced.
Published from 1829 to 1833, the Great Waves off Kanagawa was said to be the first print presented by world-renowned Japanese artist, Hokusai, in his ukiyo-e series called Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. Also known as The Great Wave or The Wave, the painting was a woodblock print depiction of a gigantic wave trying to scare some boats along the coast of Kanagawa Prefecture. Somewher in the painting is the magnificent Mt. Fuji, still standing beautifully amidst the disturbance happening around it.
