Yes, ancient Japan also has their own unique version of the rubber flip-flops. Theirs is called the geta, which are usually made of wood. They are usually elevated, keeping the feet from being dirty. This wooden board, usually unfinished, is called dai. They are attached to the feet by a thong made of fabric or cloth. These pieces of soft materials are called hanao. Though they are usually worn without socks, especially the men, women who are wearing the kimono usually wear socks called the tabi.
Through the years, the Japanese has developed different kinds of these wooden slippers.
