The arts have always been a treasure for any country. With the performing arts slowly rising to the top of preference among enthusiasts of the arts, Japan would not be left behind in this sense.
Gagaku, characterized by long, slow songs and dance-like movements, is the oldest of the Japanese traditional performing arts. This heritage has been performed at banquets and ceremonies, not only at the Imperial Palace, but also in theatres throughout the country. Encompassing three distinct arts, gagaku is one of the most revered treasures of traditional Japan.
