Known for the concept of zen or of being minimalist, the Japanese also has ways of expanding small spaces at home.
Traditionally, and even up to the present, the Japanese don't actually utilize a bed. They actually use futon or the traditional Japanese bed. The futon is actually just quilted mattresses and is just laid on the floor. When one buys futons at stores, it usually comes with a duvet or covering futon to keep one warm during winter or other cold days. Apparently, the West has adapted the futon in newly-released furnitures, wherein the mattress is used in low sofas or beds.
