If you have been to a Japanese house. then the first thing that you will notice is the sliding panels called fusuma.
In the past, fusumas in Japanese houses were painted with different designs. Paintings could be landscapes, human figures, birds, flowers and other things under the sun. Kyoto, Japan is the centre of Fusuma painting. It is very different from wallpapers which people nowadays are using. The fusuma is made from thick and durable paper. The fusuma's paintings may have meanings and can be based on the historical background or culture of the Land of the Rising Sun.
There are now few people using fusuma, but there are still fusuma that survived for a long period of time. Most of them can be seen in Kyoto, Japan. Here's a sample video of Fusuma painting from OhgushiStaff.
