Bicycles had been a large part of the Japanese lifestyle. People from all walks of life can be seen riding a bicycle in Japan: high school student, old lady going for groceries, a salaryman on his way to work, a woman getting late for an appointment. Currently, aside from the bicycle there are only 4 main modes of transportation in Japan: bus, train, taxi, and personal car. Trains are convenient but are mostly crowded during rush hour. Buses can also come in handy but heavy traffic jam may lessen its value. Taxis can be very expensive, and personal cars give parking problems. Truly, bicycles have proven their worth in the Japanese culture.
