This video will tell you the story of how artist Aki Inomata made an unusual art – a sculptured shell of a hermit crab in 2016. The process involves taking cross sectional photos of shells with a CT scan, and 3D modelling and printing based on the data results of the shell’s CT scan.
Apart from “Why Not Hand Over a ‘Shelter’ to Hermit Crabs?,” Aki Inomata is a 34-year old known for making arts in collaboration with living creatures. A graduate of MFA in Media Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts, Inomata has been very active in the arts industry since 2004, either on solo or group exhibitions. She was also the Grand Prize winner at the 2014 YouFab Global Creative Awards 2014.
