Onta-yaki is a type of Japanese pottery that is produced in the village of Onta located at Oita Prefecture in Japan. The production started in the early 18th century and it is closely associated with Mingei folk art.
To make an Onta-yaki, an artisan searches for a rock found in the Onta mountains. He places the rocks in wooden mills to turn them into powder. The clay is washed and filtered a few times and then dried up using a large oven.
The final product consists of utility vessels such as bowls, plates and teacups. Here's a video from Japanese Arts and NHK World.
