On June 2015, a California-based robot company named MegaBots sent a video challenge to Kogoro Kurata, a giant robot artist in Japan. The latter, the company being called the Suidoboshi Heavy Industries (SHI), which is from the land of Mazinger Z and Voltes V, accepted the challenge. The MegaBots announced the battle to be a year after the videos had been released on Youtube. Unfortunately, June 2016 passed by and what MegaBots had been uploading on their Youtube channel were just updates on the technology they used and the progress on improving their MegaBot Mark II.

Around the last quarter of 2016, there had been rumors that the grand giant robot battle would commence by the end of last year. As everybody knew, nothing happened.

On April 5, 2017, finally, MegaBots made an announcement. In this video, they introduced their Mark III robot, announcing that the battle would finally happen in August of this year. The place has not yet been announced but according to their very first video, it would be the Kuratas who would identify the place of the duel.
