TDK Corporation is a Japanese company that produces electronics, and data storage devices. They also manufacture electronic components and recording devices. TDK is an acronym for Tokyo Denkikagaku Kogyo which means Tokyo Electronics and Chemicals.
TDK started in 1935, and during that time, manufactured ferrite, an iron-based magnetic material. Ferrite was used in radio sets to reduce the noise produced by interference. It was also used in television sets.
In the 1950’s they started producing magnetic tapes. The company is widely known for their production of compact cassette tapes starting in 1966. They also produced VCRs or Video Cassette Recorders in the 1970’s.
Today, TDK produces electronic components that help devices become smaller, lighter, and more portable.
