Sony has just developed a smartphone camera that comes with its own DRAM. They revealed the industry's first 3-layer stacked CMOS image sensor on February 2017. The DRAM layer was added to the conventional 2-layer stacked CMOS image sensor.
DRAM or Dynamic Random Access Memory delivers fast data readout speeds which makes capturing 1000fps video, or super slow motion videos, at 1080p (full HD) resolution possible. The sensor alone has 21.2 megapixels and is capable of recording 4K video in full HD as well.
Although Sony has not announced when and in which smartphone the DRAM technology will actually land on, it is expected to be revealed sometime this year.
