Vinyl has made a comeback. After a 28-year hiatus, Sony will release vinyl records once more.
In 1989, Sony pressed a vinyl record for the last time in preparation for the digital age which introduced the CD or compact disk. Now in 2017, in an age where music is truly digital with the proliferation of music streaming sites, Sony will once again manufacture vinyl records. On June 2017, Sony announced that they will resume in-house vinyl production. This will be operated by a factory southwest of Tokyo. The factory will become the second vinyl-producing factory in the region. Production is due to begin in the first quarter of 2018.
