After a decade, Sony Corp. finally relaunched the new generation of Aibo, the Artificial Intelligence Robot dog.
The new and improved robot is Sony’s signature product, an iconic part of the discontinued series of robotic ‘pets’ Sony manufactured in 1999. The award-winning technology was previously pulled out from the market as Sony attempts to make the company more profitable.
AIBO is synonymous to the Japanese word for ‘partner’, making the robot a commodity for people who wants pets but cannot handle the continuous responsibilities required to keep a living being. The toy, referred to as ‘entertainment robot’, is only 29 centimeters tall, weighing roughly 2 kilograms.
The resurrected Aibo is developed to have several sensors, cameras and microphones as well as WiFi-capable, boasting of its ‘personality’ and capability to ‘grow’.
