Japan is known for its high tech subway system that includes bullet trains. Shinkansen (meaning Trunkline) can reach speeds of 199 miles per hour or 320 kilometres per hour. it's fast and efficient and enables mass transit between adjacent/distant cities and prefectures. The inauguration first opened in 1964 where the Hikari bullet train left Tokyo Station and Shin-Osaka station. Soon after, several bullet trains were run such as the Sanyo Shinkansen (1975), Green glass (1985), Nozomi Trains (1992), Akita and Nagano (1997) and Hokkaido Shinkansen (2016).
The success of Japanese Engineers prompted countries in Europe such as France and Germany to invest in a high-speed train. Asian countries such as Taiwan and China also followed with their own versions of Shinkansen.
Japan is looking forward to using the Maglev or Magnetic levitation technology where it uses cooled hydrogen to levitate the train on its tracks and make frictionless speeds that are safe beyond the capabilities of the current Shinkansen train.
