The Nintendo Entertainment System, or more popularly known as NES, was first released in 1983 as the Family Computer or the Famicom.
However, the first year of the released version was not doing good in the market at the time due to a bad chip set that resulted to a product recall. But the Famicom improved itself and made a comeback the following year and became one of Japan's best-selling game consoles of all time.
Shown at the photo is the American version of the Famicom, unveiled during the 1985 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Instead of being a top-loader for the games, like the original Japanese Famicom, the American version was a front-loader, just like a video cassette recorder. This version was later on what was called the official NES.
