Using smartphones while driving is definitely a no-no, especially because it can lead to accidents and collisions. Aichi Prefecture in Japan is the perfect example of this. It has been documented as the city with the most traffic fatalities in Japan.
To solve that problem, Toyota has partnered with coffee shop chain, Komeda Co., Ltd and telecomms company, KDDI Corporation, to create the Driving Barista smartphone app. This app basically rewards you for NOT using your cellphone while driving.
Through the use of gyroscopic sensor technology and GPS mileage tracking, the app measures when your smartphone is lying face down as you drive a distance of 100 kilometers. Once you reach the 100-km mark, you get a coupon for a cup of blended or iced coffee at any Komeda coffee shop in Aichi area.
So if you're from Aichi, you better start ditching your smartphone for smart driving to get coffee in between.
