Canon Inc. is a Japanese multinational corporation which has found passion in producing imaging and optical products.

The company began with the name Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory. The corporation was started out by 4 hardworking leaders: Takeshi Mitarai, Goro Yoshida, Saburo Uchida and Takeo Maeda. When it was starting out, it did not even have its own optical glass technology. In fact, the company's very first cameras were said to include lenses from now rival company, Nikon.

It was in the year 1934 that they created "Kwanon," what is considered to be the very first 35 mm camera from the Land of the Rising Sun. After 13 years of the success of this camera, the company decided to adapt its name and Canon Inc. was born.
