Yuzuru Hanyu is a 22-year-old Japanese figure skater. He is the reigning world champion of men's solo figure skating. He won the Olympic gold medal for the 2014 Winter Olympics. He is also an 11-time world record holder for having the highest scores for short program performance, free skating, and combined total scores. His most recent world record was for the 2017 World Championships, earning a total score of 223.20 points for the free skating competition. He is most well-known for his superb skating technique. He can execute clean swan-like lines, and perform spins seamlessly, including the difficult Biellmann spin and doughnut spin. Hanyu is set to open the 2018-2019 figure skating Grand Prix Series at the Rostelecom Cup in Russia.
