One of the most extremely famous sports that originated in Japan is Ekiden. This is described as a long-distance road-based relay running race. It became very popular because the said sport is broadcast live on television, along with its tremendously huge crowd. The game consists of a group divided into equal distance to run through and then passing the sash to the finish line.
The term Ekiden means station and transmit. This term was invented by the poet Toki Zemmaro. He derived it from the old concept of the Japanese race called Tokaido, which means communication and transportation system. However, the concept of ekiden is not unique to any other countries. Here's a video from Chandler Collins.
