It is formerly known as just the World Marathon Majors. The other legs are in Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York and at the Olympic Games.
During its first year in 2007, there were around 25,000 runners who participated at the Tokyo Marathon. After seven years, the number of participants rose to 36,000, with Kenya's Dickson Chumba and Ethiopia's Tirfi Tsegaye winning the marathon.
