Take a look back in the past in this video that captured the moment when Tokyo became the host for the 1964 Olympics for the first time.
The 1964 Tokyo Olympics were the first Olympics held in Asia, making it a game changer both for the Asian countries and the Olympiad. Many records were broken and made during the 15-day event.
The Olympics were made official when the nineteen-year-old, Yoshinori Sakai, a member of Waseda University's running club at the time, lit the Olympic flame. He was chosen to represent Japan's postwar reconstruction and peace since he was born in Hiroshima on the exact same day that the atomic bomb was dropped on the same city.
