Backcountry snowboarding is snowboarding in unpatrolled, isolated areas either inside or outside a ski resort. Basically, it is snowboarding in an accessible area but not within the ski area boundaries.
In Japan, backcountry is not entirely prohibited. There are some areas wherein backcountry riding is tolerated.
Shane Booker, a YouTuber, didn't just went backcountry snowboarding in some place faraway but in Japan's tallest mountain, Mt. Fuji. Shane, along with his 7 friends, decided to climb the mountain and snowboard their way down. Their ascent took 6 hours while their descent was 25 minutes short.
