The team represented Japan in the sport of Curling. Curling is also called ‘Chess on Ice’, because of the precise strategy and teamwork needed to win. Played by 2 teams of 4 players, the sports need precision and accuracy because of the slippery ice, as well as the friction needed to throw the granite stones called ‘rocks’ to the center of the target or the ‘house’. All these must happen without touching the stone with the broom or any body part. Doing so is called ‘Burning’ a stone and is considered as a violation.

The sports originated from Scotland, and is now an official sport in the Olympics. Many countries compete in Curling, including Japan, Scotland (the place it originated), Canada, Finland and Switzerland.
