The Land of the Rising Sun has been home to a lot of ancient fighters, thus they also had developed a number of unique martial arts. One of these sports is the close combat discipline of Jujutsu.

More popularly known in the West as Jiu-jitsu, the original term can be dissected into two terms. "Ju" literally means something gentle and soft, while "jutsu" is the Japanese term for "art" or "technique." Being a "gentle" martial art, the methods are designed for one on one close fights, without using any kind of weapon.

The technique was actually developed as a counter attack for the thick armors of the samurais. Because of their weapons that can reach a certain range, the technique was devised to get close enough to the samurai, and totally removing their chance to use their swords.
