The Japanese has also been fancy about running. In fact, there is a very famous long-distance relay race in Japan called the ekiden. Usually, it has been the baton which has been passed from runner to runner in a relay race. But in ekiden, it has been different. It has been a sash all along. There actually had been a number of ekidens in every aspect of the society. There had been some national ekidens, which are open to the public, and there are some which are specific to a certain group of people like high school ekidens, university ekidens and corporate ekidens. The important thing is the passage of the cloth sash from one person to another.
