Japan does a lot of things with a lot of extra. One of these things is a game like capture-the-flag. In Japan's interpretation, this is Botaoshi. Botaoshi, literally meaning to knock down a pole, is a sport played by two teams of 75 attackers and 75 defenders. The goal is for the opposing team to lower the pole to a thirty-degree angle above the sand. This game is usually played in junior high school.
The National Defense Academy of Japan is especially recognized for this game because the 150 cadets who belong to one of four battalions can get very competitive partly because of the large crowd before them, but mostly because of team pride.
