The Yokohama chicken is actually a hybrid of two different Japanese breeds: the Minohiki or Saddle Dragger, and the Onagadori. The Minohiki is Japan's red and long-tail rooster. The Onagadori chicken is a native from the Kochi Prefecture.
These two breeds of chicken are considered as Japanese Natural Monuments. However, the name Yokohama is not because of its origin, but rather from the name of the port where it was first exported to Europe.
The Yokohama is primarily an ornamental chicken. It has a relatively quiet voice and can only produce 1 egg a week. Despite this, many poultry breeders keep a Yokohama chicken due to its unsual plumage and long elegant tail.
